Introduction

Penetration testing at CyberCrew emphasizes disciplined methodology over tool collecting. Work through the roadmap in order when you are new, then return to deeper resources as your labs demand it.

Learning objectives

  • Understand ethical scope, rules of engagement, and responsible disclosure.
  • Build a repeatable recon and enumeration workflow.
  • Practice common web, network, and privilege-escalation techniques in lab environments.
  • Document findings clearly with evidence and remediation guidance.

Roadmap

  1. 01

    Foundations and ethics

Legal boundaries, methodology overview, lab setup, and note-taking habits.

  2. 02

    Reconnaissance and enumeration

Passive OSINT, active scanning mindset, service fingerprinting, and mapping attack surface.

  3. 03

    Web application testing

Auth flows, injection classes, access control issues, and modern app patterns.

  4. 04

    Privilege escalation and post-exploitation

Local discovery, misconfigurations, credential hygiene, and lateral thinking in labs.

  5. 05

    Reporting and communication

Evidence quality, severity framing, and writing findings others can act on.

Tools & references

  • Burp Suite / proxy workflows
  • Nmap and service enumeration tooling
  • Linux / Windows lab VMs
  • Note systems (Obsidian, CherryTree, or similar)
